Remember you're playing RuneScape: Dragonwilds through a third-party platform, so be sure you also follow the advice provided directly by Steam's support team.
Restart your PC
- Try closing all open applications and restarting your PC
Restart your modem/router
- Turn off and unplug your modem/router to initiate a power cycle. You'll need to leave at least 30 seconds before you plug them back in
Improve your network connection
- If you're using wi-fi, try switching to an ethernet cable (AKA a hard connection). Hard connections provide you with the highest reliability and speed your internet has to offer
- If that's not possible, close other programs that access the internet (such as other games, streaming music, videos, or anything that is using the internet to download or upload) to improve the wireless connection
Check your modem/router's firewall settings
- Sometimes, your modem/router's firewall settings may cause connection issues
- You'll need to review any support material provided on your internet service provider OR get in contact with their support team for more guidance
Contact your internet service provider
- It's possible the issue is caused by an issue with your internet provider's service. Get in touch with your provider's support team to get clued in on any known issues.
Reduce your network traffic
- Some third-party programs running in the background or other devices running on your network can interfere with your connection. Try closing any background applications to see if the performance improves
- You can see real-time graphs of total CPU, memory, disk, network, and GPU resource usage for your system by heading to Task manager > Performance
Turn off any VPNs/proxies
- Using a VPN or Proxy server can sometimes cause connection issues. If you notice any issues, consider following your provider's instructions to disable these services
Check your PC's firewall settings
- Make sure you’ve allowed Steam and all of its data to pass through by setting up exceptions in your firewall
Try flushing your DNS
Your PC keeps a record of IP/DNS records for quick access to websites. Flushing your DNS clears these and might help fix your connectivity issue
- Open Command Prompt
- Enter ipconfig/flushdns
Release and renew your IP address
A refreshed IP address may be all you need – follow the steps below then reload.
- Open Command Prompt
- Enter ipconfig/release to release your IP
- Once the prompt returns, enter ipconfig/renew to renew your IP
